Cal Poly Professor hit by Truck while Cycling
An associate professor at Cal Poly, Brian Lawler, was hit by a pickup truck while cycling to work on Monday around 8:00 a.m. Lawler was heading north across the intersection of California Boulevard and Taft Street, when he was struck by a southbound truck turning left on Taft. Thankfully, the driver stayed with Lawler until emergency responders were on the scene. He was quickly rushed to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.
According to the San Luis Obispo Tribune, Lawler sustained a fractured pelvis in addition to various bruises and scrapes. He was able to leave the hospital on Wednesday, on crutches. Lawler’s bicycle, which was carrying cameras and other expensive pieces of equipment, was also damaged.
